Finally got settled in Colorado, experienced my first snow, first few snows actually. Concrete, Concrete, Concrete. You have to make it a full time job to hit all the backyards and parks and spots and ditches. Sounds like a job I woulnd't mind waking up to. Not to mention the fact that half of it is homies coming together and pouring stuff in each others backyards to avoid the intense crowds that can gather at the parks if your timing is off. Pretty psyched....pouring 17 yards later in the week in one day, first shot crete experience ever--not like I have much to offer but it's still a cool learning experience. It's Always fun to see someone you actually are friends with in a magazine, but when you see someone who is not only your friend but one of the coolest dudes you know it's especially awesome. I knew Dee would go somewhere when i first met him at the atlanta foundation. A few months later randomly his crew was in memphis, next thing you know they were showing up about every other month crashing our couches for days at a time and getting us hyped to attack the street mission. Opening up a Thrasher which is by far my favorite skate magazine and seeing him killing it on a double page ad is just rad, because I know he deserves it! Congrats Dee!!

The premier was great, being blackout wasted finally accomplishing something that took nearly two years surrounded by homies is a night you usually cant beat. Hyped on the memphis crowd that showed but I was especially stoked we had so many out of towners that showed. A car from STL, two cars from nashville, and will mabee made it from LR also. What a stoke up! Just hyped to see homies go out of the way to come show support thank to all! What does it take to get you to sell everything for something? Even 3 years ago this could have been the beginning of me telling you about jesus. FUCK JESUS and FUCK the SOUTH. I will tell what would get me to sell everything and get the fuck out? paradise. Someone once told me that I should never move to the north. Not being a memphis lifer (as most are...and for those of you reading this who have lived in memphis your whole life and are thinking to yourself that isn't me....it's probably going to be you) I politely asked why. This particular person told me everyone is different in the north, people don't talk to you people arent nice up there, they hate everyone. My experience differs. Ever since I have moved further south than I have ever lived all I have felt is like I need to watch my back constantly, I'm talked about nonstop (like im some hot shit?), and everyone here has a chip on their shoulder. You have to be the best one, your idea is the best, your house is the best, your crew is the best, everything everyone else does is lame compared to you. I don't claim to be doing anything past doing what makes me happy-skateboard. Some people think that is cool, some people don't. I have had grown ass men tell me straight to my face that leading a life at 27 years of age caring about riding a skateboard makes me a fuckin moron. dont give a shit. sorry i dont ride horses and shoot deer. If you don't do what you are passionate about in life you aren't living. Some people can't hang. it's not their fault. They jsut don't have "it" like you do. What do I mean by "it"? No I am not talking about skills. I am not talking about the feeling you get when you see grant taylor so anything and you just think wow he has "it." I am talking about the feeling of everyday passion. the feeling that even if your trick isnt that fucking cool to everyone else its your own personal goal and it satisfies you to accomplish that! where did that go? The "it" I'm talking about is what our crew used to be all about. Living on near nothing because we are so god damn poor we had to save just to drive to little rock and get a little bit of decent skating in. The "it" im talking about is when you go out and slave int he heat for 8 hours to pour concrete just to have something to skate. I dont know how to pour concrete? I hate working out in the heat. But there is an underlying DRIVE in me that forces me to do it. Wake up at 7 in the morning feeling like a can of beer you drank so much the night before but you just do it because you have to, not because you want to. That's how living in the south is. There is so little motivation and so little things to skate that without FORCING yourself its easy to just drop off. With all this said I don't know where I will end up nor do I care but ALOT of people will read this. Whether you hate me or not doesn't matter (def not to me) your intaking what i have to say. Quit hating and see the truth. Skateboarding in Memphis is rapidly dying.

Thanks for all the help fom everyone this was by far the best pour we have had yet. Lots of people showed up on time and made this happen. Plenty of people stepped up and worked crete some that never had before and KILLED it . Hell yeah. Pictures of progress to follow 4 yards of crete manhandled into 3 separate obstacles dont forget none of this will be skateable until wednesday or later because of the rain keeping it wet. Also, Don't act like this is time to take a break always feel free to make donations, I am working on a few fundraising ideas and more crete in the future is near!!!!!!!!!!!

Got out yesterday with a good crew and we got plenty done we need to accomplish just as much today though because we are only about halfway through. We are really in desperate need of a weed eater something that can really cut down some shit. If anyone can help out today that would be great to get al this stuff chopped down before tomorrow. Today I need some people to come out and help move rubble. I have a couple people but am losing two people that were there yesterday. Step up and get out there will be there by 600!

Saturday rapidly approaching, lots to do today and tomorrow from 545 on I will be up at spot finishing the rubble stack clearing out brush getting ready for saturdays pour. Saturday we will be thin setting several things painting Qp's covering graffitti etc. If someone has a paintroller that owuld be great ours got stolen from spot. Also extra wheelbarrows for moving crete from truck to formed areas is a plus. right now someone with a better weedeater will be crucial though because some good places to get ruibble the grass is so high you cant really get to it. Let's make this happen! Truck shows up at 10 am saturday we are trying to rally up there at 9 am!

It's about to get serious here I am out of town from today until Monday..... We are pouring on Saturday the 20th AKA 8 Days from Today All next week I am going to need some help ro sure here are the things left to do from tuesday to friday. I need to get a full sheet of 1/2 inch ply wood and cut the forms for the manny pad, this requires a truck to pick it up thats why I havent gotten it done yet. Once that is in place (hopefully Monday night I can knock that out if someone can come through on a truck) tuesday once that form is in place we need to "create" rubble and fill in the part of the spine we are pouring and then also put a little rubble on the manny pad as to not waste crete. This doesnt sound like much but it HAS to be doen before saturday pour we are getting 4000 psi grout mix with no rocks and fibers mixed in to help with strength, so no mixing but we will need as many hands as possible to move it wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow to correct locations so people who know how to work the crete can stay at the actual obstacle. I will be creating a facebook event for the actual pour once I know the time of the trucks arrival which I cannot schedule until midweek. Until then anyone hit me up who thinks next week they can put in some pre-pour work, all will be done after 5:30 pm. thanks everyone!

Caught several great sessions at altown this weekend in addition to pouring the rest of that hip on Sunday. We are trying to get a truck in the next 2 weeks to start bowling int he back corner, also on the list of things in the near future, manny pad, possible bank to ledge, maybe bank to bank over pit or rollers through the pit still working on that idea. we need about $350 to get a truck to come out with 3 yards and we have about 60 so mkae donations is at all possible in person to me paypal takes a small percentage. I know a TON of people don't come and work, which is whatever, but if you go and skate this spot and follow this blog DONATE SOMETHING! We are in desperate need of 2 by 4's and plywood to build forms from, even if its old wood usually we can make it work for something. Over the last week an through the weekend we have gotten alot done at the spot. After a long discussion we have decided to coninue the spine towards the wall with several hips and then bowl out the back area. should be awesome. Finishing up hip sometime in the next 5 days needed to get some more money for crete. In fact give us some:

Our next real pour will be I don't know when, but it needs to be a truck. We are wasting money on quickcrete and making slow progress. We need free plywood. Have some laying around? GIVE IT TO ME. Forms are the most important and yet still are most of the time trash aqfter 1 or 2 uses. old plywood is ok, thicker the better, but we really need to start forming up all this stuff and get ready for a truck. I am trying to work out some deals with some concrete companies were we could get the extras off other jobs but this is difficult because ther is a time frame etc. Donate Work Skate....Don't be a Pud!

Memphis, Oxford, Tulsa, Little Rock

I don't know of any other sport, activity or anything where you can travel around and meet people with the same approach to life as you so easily. Skate, thrash, [arty, river, live life to its fullest. This weekend with the long weekend we wanted to head out and find something new. Some people made a trip to eureka springs 2 years ago and brought it up. Plenty of us hadn't gone and were immediately game. The trip went form just a few of us to 3 oklahomans, 3 memphians, 3 oxfordians, at least 12 to 15 little rock natives and 6 or 7 dogs barging Eureka Springs to camp, skate, and lounge in the river.

Saturday night delight:

Me and bambei were on the late train and arrived after everyone else's first session. Setting up your tent in the dark is never fun, and neither is sleeping on pea gravel. We held our complaints to ourself due to the fact that 10 feet from our tent was the park which we came to slash. Although, the 3 am wake up call to "wakey wakey" from a set of local Eurekan police who had found our vigilante campground tucked away in the children' playground next to the skatepark. Pack it up and leave. suck. Finding a hotel proved to be a more difficult challenge although the folks at Joy Motel did make our night a "joy." Sleep doesn't matter on trips like this at least not to me, I just pay the price later. Settled in around 5:15. Make it back to the park around 10 15. Everyone has made it to one sesh finally and despite the sweltering heat the bowl session was going off. Several notable tricks, from McNair grinding both directions over the hip, into the hip, out of the hip, to bambei with a low to high front tailslide, chris with a low to high backlip slide, and plenty of others. Everyone had a blast! Once we were too hot to move we moved the dog party to the river which was the highlight of the day for sure. Dogs jammed out harder than ever as well us. A few hours lounging and brewing andnow it's time to keep moving. Back to the park for a short session and head out to the camping grounds we found to make our night a little easier., great now of hanging brewing etc is cut short by a full night of thunderstorms. Just keeping us on our toes. Wake up skate the park again and head home. Another trip in the books!

I have spent the last couple days going through nearly every clip on my computer I have filmed in the last year and a half or so. Back then I was in between cameras and we had decided to film the "trife" video on taylor's ipod which immediately pissed me off. Shortly after, I obtained my new consumer HD camera and the stacking began. You can never imagine the amount of footage it takes to fill an entire video and even make it moderately good unless you have done such before. Finishing the Desoto Sk8 video back in about 08, or 09, was a much easier task because I spent and entire summer surrounded by my homies with little work other than SKATE...FILM....repeat. Times change we get older people move new responsibilities come into play. Getting old fucking sucks! But a year and half later I can see the light at the end of the tunnel as the Trife Street Video is finally beginning to form. It will have full parts for the following: Taylor Bradley, David Hammond, Erich Bambei, Chris Ulander, Darius King, Tyler Nelson, and Wrex Cook.

Including a rediculous Friends part for some of our other memphis homies to get footy in......In addition F.U. Crew and Team Joe from Nashville have an entire part that is turning otu pretty awesome. and the highlight of the video a 2 part section of our homies up in Little Rock Rippin'. Yesterday I awoke to a missed text message from wrex..."almost there." I looked at the time stamp and saw that was nearly twenty minutes ago. I hopped out of bed only to see it was 7:30 am. The 15+ beers I consumed the night before were not adding to the delightful early wake up. Fuck it. Feed the dog and start gathering my items. Back to Little Rock again. Another 100+ degree day in paradise. Started off at riverside where we had an empty park to skate to ourselves. After a ripping 3 hour session we move on to Enjoy skate shop. Everyone bought some product and we moved on to Vino's. Brews and slices galore always makes your day better and sitting down for a little renewed us all. We moved on to Kanis where we finally met up with LR homies. Epic sesh goes off. Lurk. Sesh. Lurk. Sesh. Then it's time for a spot change. Finally adjusting to seeing the sun everyday again after an epic amount of rainfall. With about 8 inches of standing water still left in our spot the one thing I'm not adjusting to is NOT SKATING. This is fuckin' bullshit. Throw some money if you can our way. Here is what we are till working with:

We have about 20 dollars left in the fund its about 50 bucks to rent a trash pump from Home Depot which supposed pumps out 185 gallons per minute so let's all pull together and make this happen if enough money comes in I would love to jump on this tomorrow but with the impending Kanis Bash coming up it will likely get left til next Wednesday. Can't happen without you. And yes I am talking about YOU!

On Friday we began pouring on the spine which will be cool once its done although now its sort of lame. A good showing to help get some work done.

Then I went and picked up the old pool coping from the bowl which will be used up at altown sometime soon. Thanks Terry for donating that to the cause!!

Fast Forward 3 40's and a couple hours of sleep and back to work. Terry has been so generous over the years I am always down to put in work to help him and Mike out. Went to the bowl and finished off the new pool coping.

So tomorrow is the big work day. We will be beginning at 9am Filling in the rest of the quarterpipes and finishing all the last minute touches before the concrete truck arrives. The concrete truck arrives at 11 am and will only stay for 1 hour. We have 2 yards and it will be a stretch to get it all moved in time we need ALL HANDS ON DECK. Also, we will need brooms, shovels, wheelbarrows, gloves if you think you will need them and of course extra concrete tools. This is a major pour and we really need the support of the skate community. You know your gonna skate it so come help create it. Don't blow it ! Yesterday we went out to the spot and put the final touches on some templates and poured a retaining wall to pour a spine into. Next Saturday we will be pouring a yard and a half or so we can use all the help we can get. We need extra wheelbarrows shovels and hands for sure. We will be picking up premix in trailers so we will have to get it from the street to the people who are actually pouring the trannies. Come help....dont be lame!

We are pouring more crete sometime in the next 3 weeks, the wallride and a twinkie, with plans for a spine shortly after. We are getting pre-mix this time so we will be pouring more at once and will need as much support as we can get. It has been a lot of work but this spot is really coming along. We laid pool coping from a local pool that was filled in on the QP last wednesday. Now we are forming up more stuff, tonight I worked with Galinis to cut the forms for a 3 ft spine on a 6 ft transition. Anyone have any good cinderblocks to donate? We need 12 to get started on that project. Wallride is formed up needs a little more fill and its ready to roll. We are on the road to success as always donate if possible we are ragin it!

Its been a long rough week trying to get stuff done at spot. We finally Got the qp fully poured it is dry and ready to skate now, but sometime in the next week or so we will be laying pool block on it and it will need about a week to set properly before its skated again. We formed up right next to the newest qp to pour the exact tranny but blend it into the wall so you can hit the death box, also formed up two other trannies on the opposite wide which will be a doorway-like wallride. Also before the next pour we are working on a couple twinkies for the middle. Do it all in one pour with pre-mixed crete! Thanks to all who have helped and given their donations and time etc. This can only be as good as what we put in it. We can always use more money for crete, tools, etc. If you have old tools laying around that you don't use donate them. We can always use more shovels, hoes, wheelbarrows, pushbrooms, concrete tools, wiresnippers, etc. Or bags of crete, cinderblocks, rebar, fencing, old bricks. Your trash may be our treasure. This was basically an all weekend project. Thanks to all that helped, but especially to Gonz who put in two full days to make it happen, and also to Wrex and Kim who came from oxford and showed us the ways of perfection. We werent able to pour the whole thing in one day took way more crete than we thought. I am thinking from now on we need to buy premixed yards to save money and time those just arent available on Sundays. DO NOT SKATE THIS. The vert section will be poured this week hopefully be skateable by next weekend!

Altown2 truly begins THIS SUNDAY! We are planning on having a huge workday where there will be lots of cleaning, pouring to fix some flatground, seshing the ledge and polejam, and if all goes well building our first quarterpipe.

We are sledge hammering this (whoever did this come on) and using it for fill right to the right of it to make a 6 ft 3 inch 6 to 8 ft wide QP with formed coping. Our goal is to at least pour half Sunday, a daunting task. It doesn't seem like much but I remember from pouring the other way smaller QP at Altown 1 it was alot more work than I thought it would be.

NEEDS:

Wheelbarrows (for mixing bags of crete)

We are going to need alot of quickcrete I could bet 35 to 40 bags total. So if you know anyone who is down to donate money or donate bags of quickcrete. We need all the help we can get let's make this happen Altown is starting to become something cool again.

This weekend has been one to remember, We started out our weekend with the oh so faithful pizza club. Lots of pizzas, breadsticks and other fun things but the coolest being the we had a kegerator. BOOZE! Or so we thought. The beer tasted funny which we soon found out was because of having no CO2. Luckily, Scott comes to save the day....

You may be wondering how that large jump in time happened with no pictures or nothing to say, thats because all we did was sit by the keg and drink.

Another Little Rock trip you say? Fuck That! Everytime I get to this city I manage to skate different shit and have the best time of my life. The trip up was nearly uneventful other than finding out Jesus Saes. Classic warm up sesh at riverview where Bambei tried to pop a massive air over the bank in the bowl--and paid the price. Wrex was killing it as usual taking 5-0's off the edge of the extended pocket into the bank. Then we went and checked out the new Enjoy skatepark being built. Holy shit this thing looks crazy. An 11ft vert ramp plus a sick street section with a vert wall I swear could be 14 foot on a 7ft transition. After talking to some homies for a minute we moved onto to obtaining more brew and heading to Georgie's ramp. Ever seen a snake run mini ramp? All concrete with metal AND pool block? This ramp is epic and we seshed it til dark. Topping the trip off with an epic visit to ZaZa's all I can say is damn-take me back.

Well this day started with its too cold to skate lets get drunk and bbq. It ended wit us passing around a night hawk whose slogan on the bottle is "rule the night." Combine that with memphis actually getting some snow and now you have us bombing a grass hill into a major street causing serious problems. Once we become tired of slamming every time we go down the hill we move on to something less strenuous and somehow even more fun. Throwing snowballs fromt he train tracks at under passing cars. Of course, everyone knows train tracks are federally owned and have their own police and by our house they are especially vicious. So this guy pulls over and we start to cheese it and he basically tells us the usually you know you cant be on the tracks blahblah blah blah blah. You can't throw snow at cars blah blah blah blah blah. But fuck that! We drank night hawk--WE RULE THE NIGHT PUD. Best part is he does a U-turn cause someone made some smart ass remark and gets out of his car of course is immediately scared of the dog with us (no surprise there cause it has teeth) but tells us, "I thought I told you not to throw snow at my car." to which taylor responded, "it still doesn't have enough snow," and throws a snowball directly at the dude which whizzes by his face and hits his car. Thank you nighthawk.......

A Weekend To Remember

Another weekend of skating and debauchery, managed to stay crewed up all weekend. The Sesh began in Oxford on Saturday where one of the best oxford seshs I have been too in awhile went down. Plenty of Deep end tricks from Wrex, Mike, and Bambei of course.

After Oxford me and bambei managed to score some super cheap dead guy ale and then catch a most proper food sesh.

Somehow pulling our head out of our asses, managing to get up and roll out to Little Rock the next day bright and early. Rolled out with 10 people from Memphis (and Oxford), and managed to meet up with another 10 people in Little Rock. EPIC Kanis Sesh. SO much fun skating with those dudes every time.

The one huge mistake we made was that we forgot that in AR you cannot by beer on Sundays, and in Memphis they don't sell beer until after 12. With us leaving so early and not thinking ahead we were in trouble. I mean if your skating Kanis and not drinking beer you liable to get kicked out. We were WAY too stoked to find this place and spend our money here.

As If this trip was already not rad enough, we went and skated this amazing mini ramp with more extensions than any ramp should ever have. Fired up the grill, drank some brew. Then still headed to North Little Rock Park for a dimly lit dreamland park session. Little Rock Comes through as always!

Well as I look back through all my footage one thing that sticks out....Al Town. This was a spot that took us nearly 3 years to get to how great it was. That is not so great when you look at the progress a place like Kingshighway is making or some of these other DIY's that have big names backing them, but not too shabby for a bunch of drunk assholes. I noticed that I had a ton of Al Town footage and some pretty epic first pour time lapses that I don't think ever got released. I have decided to try and make a documentary and just kind of get the most O.G. people and interview them and gather footage and photos from the years to honor Al Town and to motivate us and make some money for the new Al Town. So basically if you want to be involved in this and you have footage or photos or something important to say you can send an email or just send it directly to al.town.memphis@gmail.com .

This is literally the first pour of the original Al Town. You can see in this particular screen grab we haven't even started stacking rubble the time lapse goes into the night and actually I don't even think we started pouring crete until it was dark. Brings back good memories!

Here is the last day we skated Al Town after it was done for police had ticketed and kicked people out, early one morning on the way to STL we all stopped and got our last tricks and I got this clip where they had knocked out the wall. Just look how much cleaner it is.

ALSO: While going through old footage I came across some footage from another life-changing night. Jon Willingham's birthday party from about 2 years ago plus. In addition to it being one of the funnest times ever you get to see homies galore skating. Not only that at that point the old bowl from SPOM was sitting at Al Town being weathered and sitting in several unusable pieces. No one wanted to say it but we all knew the day would come when that would only be firewood. This was the night the majority of us younger skaters met Terry and he heard about the bowl and the idea was pitched for him to take it. And hence Terrytopia. Great times enjoy!

Yesterday started out with no hope. After staying up nearly all night drinking and writing off a Sunday with 20+mph winds and a windchill below freezing, somehow we saddled up and managed to skate the ramp some. After a pretty hype sesh everyone was riled up and ready to skate more so we made the trek to a street spot and basically forced darius to try and skate this hubba. It was COLD.

Well the weather really ruined this one for me (along with ARC and whoever designed that other shitty park). As if it wasn't bad enough that my garage and driveway on a rainy day is a better sesh than these two parks (one in Jackson, MO, one in Cape Girardeau, MO) on the best day possible it also proceeded to rain the ENTIRE time I am here. When I was doing original cleanup a few months back with OG crew we found a broken cat carrier. The carrier was cracked in half and the door was broken off and a cat skeleton was nearby. From what it looks like someone drove by and tossed the whole carrier from the road cat and all directly in the pit.

Yet as we clean up the area in an attempt to stop this nonsense we still face opposition. Despite our efforts to contact we have decided to push forward. Ledge is nice and solid should be skateable by end of this weekend if all goes as planned. Appreciate the donations that have still been coming in we will put it to good use.....next up ledge......

Finally the Helloween weekend has come upon us. This one was just as epic as last year just in a different way. Less crew more quality. About 9 dudes from LIttle Rock made it down and hyped the sesh up to maximum level. All the rest is a mere blur. There was definitely some fliptrickery and hobgoblery going off that night into the morning wee hours. The new bricks on the mini-ramp got their official break-in. Overall EPIC weekend--Little Rocks Kills!

As I have been thinking about this new skatepark getting built in 2011, wondering how awesome it will be, I began remembering all the BS we been through in the past to even get to this small moment, a 10,000 sq. ft skate park in a huge urban city (Even Oxford could accomplish that, and that town is pretty sucky). Digging through the archives I came across some old montages and old footage that has yet been unseen. First things first in honor of our new park (that hopefully doesn't suck) Fairgrounds footage:

Well Round 3 on the bricks hopefully we did it right this time. Last night Jungle came over and helped us re-pour these bricks they are looking pretty good. Hopefully Dura-Rock makes the DIfference! This still won't be skateable for a minute we need to let crete fully cure plus caulk the back and crete the seems but its better than all the bricks sitting in the garage!

Trife Street STL Trip

Got a great group of people together and made it up to STL again to hit the Kingshighway Bridge DIY and also a park called Jefferson Barracks in addition to skating downtown St. Louis. This trip was ridiculous as to the fact that we found Hams beer in STL at 8.99 a case and proceeded to rage it. Paddy Wagon cops, local lurks, BMX Security guards, 96 beers, and Little Rock crew tagging along, and plenty of other things my warped brain can't even come across are what made this trip. Got some cell phone snaps and footage to follow.

So this guy the night before our trip parked partially blocking our driveway while attending a party on our street...after kindly asking the part thrower to ask his attendee to move his vehicle and being blown off and a 40 later I decided to take matters into my own hands and just see how happy he would be when his hungover ass woke up to drive this home.
